I started helping people get on Oprah because my phone rings constantly. Every single week, I get emails from people who want one thing and that's to get on Oprah.
People don't really understand what it takes to get on Oprah. Oprah is the crème-de-la-crème. It is the top of the TV heap so to speak. I created How to Get Booked on Oprah so that people would understand what it took and the necessary steps to be considered as a viable candidate for the show.
I have also taught at the Learning Annex. People usually say one of two things to me after the class:
1) Susan, thanks so much, I really appreciate the class and I am
totally not ready
2) Now I really understand what it takes to get
ready and I am going to do everything in my power to get on Oprah.
Once you understand the process and how to accomplish moving through all of those steps, then you can decide for yourself whether you are willing to do those steps and whether you are ready.
I was a publicist first. The reason why I became a media coach is I found was that I could get these really great placements for my clients. I got them on all the top TV shows, in magazines and in print, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Time, all of that. Oftentimes once people were booked on those shows or interviewed by the media, they did not maximize that opportunity.
There are certain ways you need to speak to the media that addresses the needs of their particular audience while at the same time addressing the kind of people and business that you want to draw to yourself. I found with many of my clients they would get a feature in The Wall Street Journal but nothing happened with their business. I thought am I spinning my wheels really working hard to get people in these top magazines? What is the problem? The problem was them.
You can get on Oprah. You can get in Wall Street Journal, but if you are not saying the right things to draw the right kind of business and people in, it may not do you any good. Getting on Oprah or getting in O Magazine or anything is just the very first step of making your media matter. That is what I started concentrating on. Now, I media train people so once they get those great bookings, they can really maximize it and make the kind of business that they want happen.

please oprah i,m begging for your help. My daughter is 16 yrs.old and is almost 400 lbs. as you know yourself how hard it is to lose I too was there I had gastric by pass surgery in2001 and am doing fine I would love to get that for my daughter what happened was I was working and we were looking for a doctor My ins. was going to pay for it we did everything we were asked to do then I lost my job please help me make the rest of her teen years worth living she has cut herself in the past because she was being teased at school. We have had to move back in with my mom and it is difficult for all of us to be here I only get unemployment I will clean your house here in florida for as long as it takes to pay for the surgery please help me help her. thank you from the bottom of my heart. cathy miles
