The first thing is passion and the willingness to know, because if I just discouraged you, you are not an Oprah candidate. Here's the thing: If you are passionate and are committed, you will find a way to get on Oprah eventually.
The #1 thing that she is looking for in people is passion and expertise. It is the passion. If you watch her show, which of course I recommend everyone do to become really familiar with the format and the flow and the style, what you will notice is that people are passionately committed to what they are doing and they don't care if they are on Oprah or not. Of course, they want to be on Oprah but they will continue to do whatever they are doing for the rest of their lives or however long it is right for them. It is what they truly believe in, and they are not going to stop because they did not get on Oprah. That is really the #1 thing, and that's what I see over and over again.
If you look at her guests, most of them, and certainly the people who are on regularly, are at the peak of their game. One of my clients is a peak performance psychologist, an expert. Yesterday as I was media coaching her we talked about the difference between top performers in any field, top athletes, it doesn't matter, is that they are passionate and committed to getting their goals and to being a top performer no matter what it takes.
